Champion Rajon Rondo announces retirement after 16 years of playing: Farewell to the charismatic NBA point guard.

Legendary guard Rajon Rondo, the charismatic point guard who has inspired basketball enthusiasts worldwide, has officially confirmed his retirement. Despite not playing for nearly two years, Rajon Rondo has now announced his retirement from professional basketball, including the NBA.

Having captured the hearts of numerous ballers around the globe over the past two decades, Rondo confirmed on the ‘All The Smoke’ podcast that he has officially called it quits on his playing career and will no longer compete professionally in the NBA.

“Have we seen the last of Rajon Rondo in the NBA?”

Rajon Rondo replied, “Yes, that’s correct. I have retired. I can’t continue playing anymore. I’d rather spend time with my children.”

Rajon Rondo, despite his small stature, possessed an extremely fierce competitive spirit. Initially excelling in defense, he earned four appearances in the NBA All-Defensive Team, along with leading the league in steals for one season.

But it didn’t stop there. Rondo also possessed exceptional tactical awareness and passing ability, evidenced by leading the NBA in assists for three seasons (2012, 2013, and 2016).

This gradually established him as one of the most outstanding and captivating guards in the NBA, particularly during his time with the Boston Celtics. In addition to the aforementioned achievements, Rajon Rondo was selected for the NBA All-Star four times (2010-2013) and was honored once in the All-NBA Team (2012). However, his most notable accomplishments as a shooting guard born in 1986 were winning two NBA championships with two different teams in two different basketball eras.

Rajon Rondo’s first championship ring was obtained in 2008 when he claimed the title with the Boston Celtics. Exactly 12 years later, Rondo reached for the Larry O’Brien Trophy for the second time, this time with the Boston Celtics’ archrivals, the Los Angeles Lakers, in 2020.

Having accumulated over $200 million in earnings, averaging 9.8 points and 7.9 assists per game over his 16-year NBA career, Rajon Rondo stated that it was time to step away and dedicate his time to his family, especially his children.

The veteran guard expressed, “Playing in the NBA is a privilege that I will forever be grateful for in my lifetime. Alongside the achievements, I cherish the camaraderie and relationships I have developed over the years of playing basketball.”

“Every game, every season, and every matchup with my colleagues has taught me valuable lessons. The NBA career has helped shape me into who I am today.”

Having ceased playing since mid-2022, Rajon Rondo is currently a part-time “coach” for his son’s basketball team. Additionally, Rondo is actively working towards completing his college degree at the University of Kentucky, a pursuit he abandoned in 2006 when he was drafted into the NBA.
