French President Emmanuel Macron has called on clubs in France and across Europe to release players for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024, including Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe has the possibility of moving to Real Madrid before the Olympics take place this summer. Real Madrid has sent a communication to the French Football Federation stating that they have no intention of releasing their players for the tournament, with Ferland Mendy, Aurelien Tchouameni, and Eduardo Camavinga all within the club’s jurisdiction.
Macron explained that he will do what is necessary to ensure that France has a strong team for the competition, stating, “We will do everything possible to have a competitive team, and I have confidence in French and European clubs.”
When asked specifically about Mbappe, Macron revealed his desire to have him in the tournament, regardless of his summer destination: “I haven’t discussed this with him, but I hope his club allows it. I think clubs should compromise so that we can have an excellent performance. It is one of my concerns.”
It is worth noting that Macron has a close relationship with Mbappe.
