Goalkeeper Sergio Romero has a significant opportunity to become Lionel Messi’s teammate at Inter Miami in the Major League Soccer (MLS). Inter Miami, Messi’s club, is reportedly interested in signing former Manchester United star goalkeeper Sergio Romero.
Journalist Martin Liberman recently revealed, “The bomb at Boca. They told me that Inter Miami want Sergio Romero, Boca’s goalkeeper, and have offered him an excellent contract. Sergio and his family like the idea of living and playing in the United States. Romero will not renew with Boca and will move to MLS. Boca will be looking for a new goalkeeper,” shared Martin Liberman on X.
Sergio Romero joined Boca Juniors in 2022, but his contract with the club will expire in just six months. Romero left Manchester United in 2021 after six years with the club and has won the UEFA Europa League.
Messi and Sergio Romero have played 79 matches together for the national team. It is likely that they will reunite at Inter Miami and play together for the first time at the club level.
Inter Miami recently experienced a disastrous streak, failing to win in four consecutive matches. Most recently, they were eliminated from the CONCACAF Champions Cup after a defeat against Monterrey.
However, they ended their poor run with a 3-2 victory over Sporting KC in the 9th round of the MLS. Superstar Messi shined, contributing with a goal and an assist in this match.
With this result, Messi and his teammates temporarily climbed to the top of the Eastern Conference standings in the MLS, tied on 15 points with New York RB but having played one more match.
