Today, USA Basketball revealed a pool of 41 athletes who are in contention for the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s National Team. The final roster of 12 players who will represent the United States at the 2024 Olympic Summer Games in Paris will be announced at a later date. The player pool was chosen by Grant Hill, the managing director of the USA Basketball Men’s National Team, and is subject to change.
The pool includes 28 players who have previously represented the USA in the Olympics and/or FIBA Men’s World Cup, accumulating a total of 23 Olympic or World Cup gold medals. Some notable players in the pool are Bam Adebayo, Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, LeBron James, Damian Lillard, and Stephen Curry.
Grant Hill expressed enthusiasm about the talent available for selection and the interest shown by basketball superstars in representing the United States at the 2024 Olympics. He acknowledged the privilege of assembling a team that can strive for another Olympic gold medal and emphasized the challenging process that lies ahead.
The head coach of the 2024 USA Men’s National Team will be Steve Kerr from the Golden State Warriors. He will be assisted by Mark Few from Gonzaga University, Tyronn Lue from the L.A. Clippers, and Erik Spoelstra from the Miami Heat. This coaching staff previously led the 2023 USA Basketball Men’s National Team to a fourth-place finish at the 2023 FIBA Men’s World Cup.
In addition, USA Basketball announced that the 2024 USA Men’s National Team will host Canada in an exhibition game at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena as part of the USA Basketball Showcase. The game will take place on July 10 and will be broadcast live on FS1. The showcase serves as preparation for major competitions such as the Olympic Summer Games and FIBA World Cup.
