The Milwaukee Bucks, already lacking key players, faced another setback when Bobby Portis Jr. was ejected early in Game 4 against the Indiana Pacers.

With both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard sidelined due to injuries, coach Doc Rivers had emphasized the vital role Portis needed to play in order for the Bucks to overcome a 2-1 series deficit.

However, less than seven minutes into Game 4, Portis received two technical fouls and was ejected from the game, prompting him to grab a towel and be escorted to the locker room.Milwaukee Bucks' Bobby Portis (9) leaves the court after being ejected during the first half of Game 4 of the first round NBA playoff basketball series against the Indiana Pacers, Sunday, April 28, 2024, in Indianapolis. Coach Doc Rivers commented on the incident, saying, “No matter how old you are, he has to learn. All of us can. I thought it was probably a lesson for Bobby and all of us, you know all the young guys.”

A total of six technical fouls were called in the game, all in the first half. The critical sequence began when Portis and Pacers guard Andrew Nembhard got into a physical altercation while battling for a rebound. This led to both players receiving technical fouls for the initial shoves. Portis then received a second technical for slapping Nembhard in the head. These actions were deemed hostile, resulting in Portis’ ejection and complicating Milwaukee’s game plan for the rest of the night.Milwaukee Bucks' Bobby Portis (9) and Indiana Pacers' Andrew Nembhard, left, get into an altercation during the first half of Game 4 of the first round NBA playoff basketball series, Sunday, April 28, 2024, in Indianapolis. Coach Rivers expressed his frustration, mentioning his desire to give rest to Brook Lopez, who missed four free throws due to fatigue.

Furthermore, the Bucks’ situation may worsen in Game 5. There is no guarantee that Antetokounmpo, Lillard, or Middleton, who suffered ankle injuries, will be available. Additionally, Pat Connaughton’s availability for the elimination game is uncertain pending tests on his injured ribs.Milwaukee Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo, center front, reacts during the first half of Game 4 of an NBA basketball first-round playoff series against the Indiana Pacers, Sunday, April 28, 2024, in Indianapolis. When asked about the postgame medical report, Coach Rivers admitted avoiding discussions with the medical staff in the hopes of receiving some positive news, as previous updates had not been favorable.
