Their relationship, icy at best, became evident last Friday when, in the video announcing his departure, the captain of the French national team expressed his gratitude to numerous individuals (coaches, sporting directors, staff, supporters) but did not mention his president or the Qatari emir. This was a direct offense to Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, who had offered him the most lucrative contract in football history in 2022. This conflict had a new episode on Sunday.

Eager to understand why he had not been mentioned in the video, the president insisted on a meeting. Nevertheless, Mbappé found the time to thank the representatives of the CUP (an ultras group) who had created an imposing tifo in his honor in the Auteuil stand.
