REPORT: Mauricio Pochettino could replace Erik ten Hag at Man United after FA Cup Final

TalkSPORT hears that Mauricio Pochettino is interested in joining Manchester United.

When Erik Ten Hag took over as manager of Manchester United two years ago, Pochettino passed up the opportunity.

However, the Argentine, who has admirers at Bayern Munich, is open to a quick return to the dugout after leaving Chelsea on mutual terms.

Man United are yet to decide whether to split ways with Ten Hag following the club’s lowest ever Premier League finish.

Pochettino was at Stamford Bridge for less than a year, taking the club to sixth place in the 2023/24 season.

He had numerous losses, including 11 Premier League defeats, FA Cup semi-final defeats, and Carabao Cup final heartbreak at the hands of a young Liverpool team.

However, a good finish to the season, with the Blues winning their final five league matches, earned Chelsea a spot in the Conference League, which will be promoted to the Europa League if Manchester United loses to Manchester City in the FA Cup final this Saturday.

The Red Devils have had a difficult season under Ten Hag’s leadership, finishing ninth in the Premier League, their lowest ever Premier League result with a goal differential of -1.

They were also ousted from the Champions League in the group stage, finishing last in their group and thus failing to qualify for the Europa League.

In November, their Carabao Cup defence was terminated with a crushing 3-0 home defeat to Newcastle.

Even an unlikely victory over City at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, which will be broadcast live on talkSPORT, may not be enough to keep Ten Hag in his position.

Pochettino has extensive Premier League experience, having previously managed Tottenham for five years and Southampton before that.

In between his stints at Chelsea and Tottenham, the 52-year-old managed Paris Saint-Germain, winning Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the Trophee des Champions.

TalkSPORT understands Pochettino earned a £3 million pay-off after leaving Chelsea a year before his contract expired.
