Mason Mount meets up with former Chelsea team-mate Ben Chilwell after the pair’s Euro 2024 England snub at Monaco Grand Prix

Several Manchester United players made last-minute journeys to Monaco for the Formula One Grand Prix after celebrating their FA Cup victory over Manchester City into the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mason Mount was among those who arrived at the Monte Carlo racetrack on Sunday, dressed in an almost all-white ensemble as a Red Bull guest for the year’s most spectacular race.

Mount was greeted in the paddock by a former Chelsea colleague, Ben Chilwell, rather than a Manchester United teammate.

The duo have remained good friends since Mount moved from Stamford Bridge to Old Trafford for £60 million last summer, and they appeared to be having fun in the hot Monaco weather.

Mount and Chilwell are already on their post-season holiday, and neither has been named to Gareth Southgate’s tentative 33-man team for the 2017 European Championship.

Mount has had a rough first season at United, where he was awarded the club’s renowned No.7 shirt upon arrival, suffering several ailments and making only 20 appearances across all competitions, scoring one goal.

However, he was fit to participate in Saturday’s Wembley match and came off the bench in the third minute of stoppage time as manager Erik ten Hag attempted to run the clock down.

Meanwhile, many Mount’s United teammates were there as Diogo Dalot paired Brazilian winger Antony on the field.

Dalot has been one of the club’s top performers this season, and he was just named United’s player of the season.

He also played an important role in the weekend’s FA Cup victory and was in high spirits as he wandered among the numerous Formula One cars, pausing to speak with Sky Sports presenter Martin Brundle.

It was the first time Dalot had had a chance to express himself properly since his Wembley interview was cut short by United captain Bruno Fernandes.

Dalot commented on his team’s FA Cup victory, saying: ‘It went extremely well. The best way to close the season, and it feels amazing to be here as the FA Cup champion.

He went on to say that Monaco was his first F1 experience, adding, ‘It’s my first time. I couldn’t have picked a finer spot to visit, and it was an incredible experience. I hope I like the race.

Other football celebrities attended raceday, including Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold, as well as Kylian Mbappe, who took in the sights of the super-rich environment.
