Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year for 2023/24, as presented by adidas.

Our no.8 has finished the season strongly, despite picking up a rare injury, and been a major influence for Erik ten Hag’s men throughout the campaign.

For the second year running, he created more chances than any other player in the Premier League and was joint-top scorer in the division for the Reds, alongside Rasmus Hojlund.

The Portugal international has eight assists in the league, which is at least twice as many as any of his teammates, and has scored 15 goals overall, one more than Hojlund’s 16 goals.

Along with this, Fernandes had the best run of his United career, scoring in five straight games, including a double in the team’s victory over Sheffield United last month.

This term, he has received two Player of the Month awards—in August and April—and has received three nominations for the same honor.

This is the third time that our skipper has picked up the prestigious trophy, since joining the Reds from Sporting Club in 2020.

As a three-time winner, only two men have picked up the annual accolade more often, David De Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo (both four).

Manchester United’s first-team squad have voted Diogo Dalot as the Players’ Player of the Year for the 2023/24 season.

In a challenging campaign, the Portuguese defender has been a ray of light, and found personal consistency despite our fluctuating results.

Dalot’s technical ability has been clear since he joined the club from Porto in June 2018, at the age of just 19, but this term has been allied to a growing physical robustness.

In an injury affected season for the squad, no outfield player has bettered Diogo’s 49 appearances to date, and his fluency on both flanks has been a real boon for Erik ten Hag.

Perhaps his best all-round performance came in the earth-shaking 4-3 win over Liverpool in the Emirates FA Cup, when he was brilliant in both attack and defence across 120 sapping minutes.

The Manchester United Goal of the Season award for 2023/24, presented by Tezos, has been won by Alejandro Garnacho’s remarkable overhead kick against Everton.

The 19-year-old’s sensational piece of skill, produced less than three minutes into United’s win at Goodison Park in November, was the talk of world football, with many onlookers suggesting it might even be the greatest goal scored across the entire Premier League era.

Alejandro’s wondrous moment on Merseyside claimed a whopping 74 per cent of the vote share, leaving little hope for any of the other first-teamers nominated.

The Premier League is yet to announce winner of its award, but surely Alejandro has a decent shout there too.

To pinch a quote from the late, great commentator Kenneth Wolstenholme, which was once used to describe a Bobby Charlton cracker, Garnacho’s goal was “good enough to win the league, the cup, Charity Shield, the World Cup and even the Grand National!”
