Following a successful season with Manchester United, Diogo Dalot is now worth more than Ruben Dias.

Since signing for United for £19 million in 2018, Dalot hasn’t always demonstrated the potential or consistency that many expected.

But this season has been different; the Portuguese full-back has stood up and assumed responsibility in the defense on several occasions.

He hasn’t been faultless, like the rest of United’s top performers, but he’s demonstrated enough to be a solid component of the club’s future plans.

Dalot was available for every game, starting all but three, and demonstrated versatility on both sides of defence in his best season with Manchester United.

According to a new report from the Football Observatory, the 25-year-old Dalot is now estimated to be worth up to €72.4 million, or almost £63 million.

For comparison, that is more than both Tottenham Hotspur’s Micky van de Ven (£61 million) and Manchester City’s Ruben Dias (£60 million), two of the league’s greatest defenders.

Rasmus Hojlund was placed highest at £105 million, Alejandro Garnacho slightly lower at £96 million, and Marcus Rashford, who has been linked with a transfer away this summer, is valued at £72 million.

Evidently, whomever takes over Manchester United next season will have a great core of quality to deal with, even if the total roster requires significant improvement.

But if United can bring Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite to Old Trafford this summer, they could have the beginnings of something extraordinary.

Having said that, United have sent a message to their shortlist of managers to replace Ten Hag.
