‘Super keen’ – Champion League winning manager is waiting to replace Erik ten Hag as sacking decision is close

Fabrizio Romano, the transfer guru, has provided an update on Erik ten Hag’s future as Manchester United’s manager.

The Dutchman is facing the axe at Old Trafford despite winning the FA Cup following a disastrous Premier League season in which United finished ninth – their lowest ever – and conceded a record number of goals.

They also finished last in a relatively easy Champions League group, and their playing style throughout the season was nasty and disruptive.

Romano stated in his Daily Briefing today that Manchester United held internal meetings this week to examine the season and Ten Hag’s future.

He did, however, mention that other topics were on the table, such as how to improve United’s dismal injury record and an evaluation of the financial situation regarding transfers.

Regarding Ten Hag, Romano feels that “the Dutch coach and his agents are still waiting for formal communication from Manchester United to understand the club’s position.”

“We could hear this in the next days as we’re entering into the moment for the final decision,” stated the spiritual leader.

“The board is involved, Ten Hag is waiting, the players are waiting – we’re entering into the really crucial stages on this.”

There have been three schools of thought regarding what is occurring with the manager’s position.

One theory, supported by another transfer expert, Gianluca di Marzio, is that the decision to fire Ten Hag was made months earlier and communicated to him before United played Arsenal.

The second idea, shared by David Ornstein of The Athletic, is that the decision will be decided during the end-of-season review.

Ten Hag took third place, claiming that INEOS had not given him any indication that his job was in jeopardy and had been working with him on potential summer transfer targets.

If the “already sacked” version is correct, it’s unclear why there was a delay in announcing the decision last week, unless there was a last-minute reprieve owing to the Cup victory.

Either way, if the 54-year-old is fired, the news appears to be near, with former Chelsea and Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel “super keen” to replace him, according to Romano.
