Manchester United goalkeeper Andre Onana was among the athletes who sat ringside in Riyadh for Saudi Arabia’s latest boxing event.
Onana was in the Middle East for Saturday night’s ceremony, one week after helping United win the FA Cup by defeating Manchester City 2-1 at Wembley Stadium.
The Cameroon international was seen conversing with Turki Al-Sheikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority and the driving force behind Saudi Arabia’s sports boom, and presenting him with a United shirt bearing his name on the back.
Onana also met with Anthony Joshua, who was ringside for the headlining fights between Deontay Wilder and Zhilei Zhang and Daniel Dubois and Filip Hrgovic. Zhang and Dubois emerged winners, and Joshua will now fight the latter at Wembley in September.
Onana joined United from Inter Milan for £47.2 million last summer and was one of Erik ten Hag’s squad members who emerged from a difficult season on top. The 28-year-old is scheduled to spend time with his family in Cameroon before returning to Manchester for preseason training.
United will play Rosenborg in Norway and Glasgow Rangers at Murrayfield before heading on a US trip that includes matches against Arsenal in Los Angeles, Real Betis in San Diego, and Liverpool in South Carolina. United will face City again in the Community Shield on August 10.
