Bruno Fernandes puts up a CLASS display in Portugal’s victory over Ireland, not allowing Ronaldo to overwhelm him

Bruno Fernandes of Manchester United continued his outstanding play ahead of Euro 2024 as Portugal defeated Ireland 3-0.

Portugal led after Joao Felix scored in the opening eighteen minutes of play. Fernandes assisted Felix with his first goal.

The last friendly encounter Portugal played before starting their Euro 2024 campaign in Germany was essentially over when Cristiano Ronaldo scored goals in the 50th and 60th minutes of the second half.

Playmaking midfielder managed an individual pass completion rate of 93% when he was on the pitch, recording 90 touches of the ball and completing 69 of the 74 passes he attempted.

He attempted, with five crosses and three long balls, to locate a Selecao teammate. Two of the three long balls he pounded and one of his crosses found their intended target.

The 29-year-old produced one significant opportunity and had two attempts on goal. While Caoimhin Kelleher in the Ireland net did not need to step in to stop the other, it was on target.

Just one of the three dribbles that the United captain attempted was completed. In three ground duels, he prevailed just once.

Fernandes played with United colleague Diogo Dalot, who played for just forty-five minutes before Nelson Semedo took his place. The identical personnel switch performed by Roberto Martinez in Portugal’s previous game against Croatia could be a sign that he hasn’t decided on a certain starting right-back for Euro 2024.

Dalot attempted 34 passes and completed 33 of them, a 97% pass accuracy rate. He touched the ball 41 times. He made a crucial pass one of them.

The United defender won half of the ground battles. Besides, he made one tackle.

As Fernandes, Dalot, and their international teammates get ready to play Czechia in their first Euro 2024 group encounter in a week, all eyes are on them.
