Manchester United has outlined ambitious plans to revamp their Carrington training ground.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new owner of the Red Devils, has ordered the long-overdue refurbishment of the club’s previously cutting-edge training facilities.
United will spend £50 million on their Carrington refurbishment, which will begin next Monday and extend until the 2024/25 season.
An excerpt from a club statement read: “Manchester United will begin work to modernize the men’s first team building at Carrington Training Complex next week, with a focus on creating a high-performance collaborative environment for players and staff.”
“The £50million project will result in all areas of the building being refurbished to deliver a world-class football facility with a positive culture to support future success.”
Ratcliffe is enthusiastic about the makeover, which will be completed by Foster + Partners, stating, “We want to create a world-class environment for our teams to win.”
“We undertook a thorough examination of the Carrington training facilities and visited with our men’s first team players, and it was evident that the standards had slipped below those of our contemporaries.
“This project will ensure that Manchester United’s training facility is once again rebuilt to the greatest standards.
“Lord Foster, a fellow Mancunian, collaborated with the Manchester United team to create some fantastic inspiration for the design.
“And we look forward to seeing the improvement to the facilities but most importantly on the pitch.”
Lord Norman Foster, Chief Executive of Foster + Partners, stated, “We are happy to oversee the redevelopment of Manchester United’s training facilities in Carrington.
“Our goal is to modernize and revitalize the facility as a catalyst for future football success, by providing places that foster a culture of collaboration, solidarity, and belonging.
“As a proud Mancunian, it is a great pleasure for me to have Foster + Partners handed this task.
“And we will ensure that our design captures the spirit of industry, grit and ambition that exemplifies both Manchester and Manchester United.”
The first phase of the improvements will be to upgrade the training ground’s gym and rehabilitation areas.
There will also be a strong emphasis on medical and nutrition topics.
The big advancements, however, will not affect the players’ ability to train next season.
