The midfielder for Manchester United and his country, Scotland, were eliminated from Euro 2024 after losing to Hungary on Sunday night in a very close game.
Both teams were having trouble finding the back of the net at the Stuttgart Arena, and it appeared as though the match might end in a draw.
But Kevin Csoboth broke the impasse in the hundredth minute of the hearing.
Scotland gained a corner and started advancing corpses. The set-piece turned the Hungarian box into an enormous tangle of bodies. Marco Rossi’s me𝚗 broke quickly upfield before the ball reached Rolland Sallai on the right, who had plenty of freedom to work with.
Sallai played a brilliant move to find an unmarked Csoboth, who calmly netted a close-range goal to break the hearts of every Scotland fan.
After three games, the Tartan Army finished last in their group with just one point, eliminating them from the competition.
McTominay participated in all ninety minutes, including overtime. The United midfielder started two dribbles and finished just one while he was on the pitch.
With 34 touches of the ball and 11 of his 15 attempted passes finding their teammates, he managed an individual pass accuracy of 73%.
The 27-year-old attempted to locate his goal with one long ball and one cross. He panned and made a successful connection with the one long ball.
McTominay engaged in eleven ground battles and prevailed five times. He had to compete in five challenges against the players from Hungary. There were just two times he was beaten.
The Carrington academy graduate drew in two fouls and made half as many tackles.
He was unusually quiet in front of goal for Scotland as he failed to register a shot, whether on-target or off-target.
McTominay will most likely now go on a break as he prepares to make his return to United, just in time for the club’s pre-season tour.
