Fans have expressed their opinions about two England players following the Three Lions’ disappointing draw against Slovenia.
On Tuesday night, England came at the RheinEnergieSTADION knowing that a win would secure their spot in the round of 16 as Group C winners.
However, Gareth Southgate’s men delivered another subpar effort, failing to break down a tenacious Slovenian team.
Kobbie Mainoo, a Manchester United youth, was brought on at the start of the second half as England sought the winning goal.
Eventually, the match finished in a dismal 0-0 tie, and England was certified as group champions, with Denmark and Serbia sharing the points.
During the match, England fans criticized Southgate for starting Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher and Newcastle United full-back Kieran Trippier.
One admirer said on social media, “Gallagher was never the answer. Again, a dreadful first half, but 10 minutes into the second half, and we’re looking much better with the correct players in their positions. Mainoo or Wharton could have enhanced this side.
Another said, “Mainoo has instant impact. “Gallagher should never have started over him.”
A third fan commented, “Trippier is terribly average, but he must do something behind closed doors that makes him one of Southgate’s favourites.” At best, he should be the third-choice running back.”
Another person said, “I’d have replaced Trippier with Gomez: Trippier coming inside all the time means Foden gets no space, plus Gomez has played half the season there for Liverpool.”

During the half-time break, former England goalkeeper Joe Hart told BBC Radio 5 Live: “It all felt a touch awkward from England, especially on the left side.
“Jude Bellingham has been coming across and into that left back position in the last third to link with Phil Foden, but Kieran Trippier seems unclear when to go or not go. You can see Foden attempting to make an effect, but no one appears to be on his wavelength.”
