Manchester United are interested in signing Ademola Lookman this summer and are willing to make an offer of €60 million (£50 million) for him, according to Italian media.

Lookman had a fantastic season at Atalanta, scoring a hat-trick in the Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen. It was a triumph for La Dea, as they won their first continental trophy. This historic performance culminated a year in which the Nigerian winger scored 17 goals and assisted 10 others across all competitions.

As expected, such a great season has led a lot of clubs to keep an eye on the former Fulham player. While United are supposed to be interested in bringing Lookman to Old Trafford, Liverpool and Chelsea are also believed to be willing to meet the €60 million asking price.

Erik ten Hag will be looking to add more attacking firepower to his squad this summer after finishing the season with a negative goal difference, a symptom of a bland assault that only scored 57 Premier League goals. According to Italian source Calciomercato, via Sport Witness, United have identified Lookman as a potential answer to some of their problems in the final third and are willing to spend the money to sign the 26-year-old.

While the rumored €60 million asking price may appear high, Calciomercato reports that Atalanta will only entertain ‘irrefutable’ offers for a player they believe is critical to their team’s success. Having previously played in England’s top tier, Lookman would require minimal time to adjust to the pressures of the British domestic game, and United’s hierarchy may regard the wide forward as one of the better choices on the market.

So far, Antony has flattered to deceive in a Red Devils shirt, while Marcus Rashford’s future remains unknown. The England international is’set for negotiations’ with Ten Hag, and Arsenal has expressed interest.

For these reasons, Ten Hag’s forward options may be diminished by next season, making a move on Lookman more imperative. The south London native had previously impressed in the Premier League with Leicester and Fulham, and his breakout performances last season have finally piqued the interest of some of Europe’s greatest clubs.

Lookman, who was dubbed “world-class” and “unstoppable” following his performance in the Europa League final, would bring creativity, technical flair, and goal-scoring prowess to a United frontline that urgently needed an injection of talent.
