Copa America 2024 results, Colombia soon entered the quarterfinals after a strong 3-0 victory over Costa Rica in the second match of Group D.

Costa Rica entered the second match in Group D with confidence, after unexpectedly holding Brazil to a 0-0 draw on the opening day. On the other side of the battle line, Colombia won 2-1 against Paraguay in the previous match and has a chance to get an early ticket to the quarterfinals.

After a stalemate in the first half, the turning point came in the 28th minute when goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira fouled Jhon Cordoba and Colombia were awarded a penalty. Luis Diaz converted the penalty kick, opening the scoring with the clock showing 31 minutes.

Entering the second half, Costa Rica made a series of adjustments to increase attack power. However, Colombia poured cold water on the opponent when they doubled the gap in the 59th minute. Davinson Sanchez jumped high and headed dangerously after Jhon Arias’ corner kick.

Just 3 minutes later, Colombia recorded a 3-0 victory over Costa Rica. James Rodriguez sent a classy pass for Jhon Cordoba to enter the penalty area and then fired a shot past goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira.

Falling into a state of “disintegration”, Costa Rica could not show much in the final minutes. On the contrary, Colombia played leisurely waiting for the final whistle and showed that they are worthy of being considered a candidate for the 2024 Copa America championship.

With a 3-0 victory over Costa Rica, Colombia quickly secured a ticket to the quarter-finals of Copa America 2024 and only needed to draw with Brazil in the final match to secure first place in Group D. Meanwhile, Costa Rica’s chances of advancing became slim before facing Paraguay.
