Fans greeted Pogba warmly as he arrived for their country’s Euro 2024 round of 16 match against Belgium in Dusseldorf on Monday. The athlete was seen in the stands as French fans yelled and sang his name.
Since September 2023, the former Manchester United player has been serving a four-year suspension for doping violations. The player was found to have excessive testosterone levels in his system, which resulted in a multi-year global suspension. However, he remains on the Bianconeri’s books. One supporter even held up a banner in favor of Pogba.
Pogba talked to BFMTV before of Les Bleus’ round of 16 match, saying: “I’m confident. I’m pleased to be here to support my team. We understand that this is an extremely crucial contest. Now, if you lose, you are out. I wish everyone the best on the pitch. We can see the supporters. Everyone is thrilled. It’s critical that they’re there and contributing to the team. “After that, it’ll be on the pitch.”
He continued, “We have guys of quality. We know there is some rivalry during these matches against Belgium. It will be an excellent contest for both teams. It will be a match that will determine France’s Euro campaign. The coach has selected determined athletes who are hungry. This will be an excellent exam. It’s the competitiveness; there are no easy matches at the Euro.”
The 2018 World Cup winner has maintained his innocence since the beginning and plans to take his case to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
