Young sensation Kobbie Mainoo of Manchester United displays the makings of a star as he disrupts the Swiss defence in England’s win

Kobbie Mainoo, a teenage player for Manchester United, excelled once more as England defeated Switzerland to get to the Euro 2024 semifinals.

Bukayo Saka’s incredible goal negated Breel Embolo’s opening goal, causing the match to continue into extra time.

Both teams had chances to score, but in the end, a penalty shootout was required to break the draw. It took Manuel Akanji’s error on the spot-kιck to guarantee the Three Lions a position in the following round of the competition.

During the time he was on the pitch, Mainoo registered 49 touches of the ball and successfully found his teammates with 33 of the 34 passes he attempted, managing an individual pass completion rate of 94%.

It was a crucial pass that he made.

Two of the United player’s attempts at Yann Sommer in the Switzerland goal were blocked.

Mainoo discovered an England teammate when he attempted to ping one long ball.

He delved into four ground duels and came out on top on three occasions. The teenager was required to contest one aerial duel, which he won.

The midfielder made one clearance and three times as many interceptions. He also put in one tackle.

Mainoo was replaced by United teammate Luke Shaw after 78 minutes of regular time. The appearance off the bench was Shaw’s first taste of action at Euro 2024.

Shaw instantly slotted at left-back.

The defender made two clearances and won the one aerial duel he challenged for. Shaw touched the ball 32 times and delivered two of the three long balls he attempted.

Mainoo and Shaw will undoubtedly be hoping that their performances against Switzerland were sufficient to secure them a spot in the semi-finals, where they will take on either Turkiye or the Netherlands.
