Arsenal and Manchester United are on high alert as Marc Guehi prepares to reject Crystal Palace’s new contract offer.
The 23-year-old starred for England at Euro 2024 and now has a slew of major clubs vying for his services, as the Eagles look set to lose their top three stars this summer.
After selling Michael Olise to Bayern Munich, Palace had hoped to keep centre-half Guehi for at least one more season.
Eberechi Eze, a fellow England Euro 2024 star, has a £60 million release clause that both Tottenham and Manchester City are eager to activate.
Guehi, who started the first four games of the tournament for the Three Lions but was suspended for the penalty shootout win over Switzerland on Saturday, still has two years on his contract.
However, unless Palace can persuade him to sign a new contract, they may have to cash in.
The Eagles want Guehi to sign a new contract that includes a release clause whenever he returns from the Euros.
However, SunSport has learnt that he has no intention of doing so.
He is said to be eager to explore his options this summer, amid interest from Manchester United.
The Red Devils are particularly impressed by how easily he has adjusted to playing as England’s left-sided centre-back in Germany despite being right-footed.
We previously stated that he is also on Arsenal’s radar.
United have already agreed on personal terms with Jarrad Branthwaite.
However, Everton has vetoed the sale, and with three years remaining on his contract, they would not lower their £80 million valuation.
Given Guehi’s contract expires in less than two years, Palace’s negotiating stance is weaker, and he is likely to be a cheaper choice.
And selling him will benefit more than just Palace’s finances.
He joined Palace for £18 million from Chelsea in 2021, and the Blues retain the option to buy him back if they match a bid from another team.
However, they also have a 20% sell-on clause, which would add a considerable sum to their own transfer fund.
Guehi was England’s most consistent performer at the Euros before missing out on the quarter-final win.
However, he will return to the starting lineup for Wednesday’s semi-final against Holland.
