Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna is apparently being paid by Manchester United more than the €40 million release clause, with the entire deal estimated to be worth €57.5 million (about $55.5 million).
According to a number of sources, including The Athletic, the Dutch attacker is expected to board a plane tonight and go through a medical examination the following morning.
Zirkzee’s €40 million release clause helped make him a highly sought-after player on the transfer market this summer. However, Milan had already accepted the condition and agreed to personal terms several weeks prior, but they were unable to move further because they would not give agent Kia Joorabchian her €15 million commission.
Milan has foregone other transfers in favour of a moral stand against exоrbitant commission payments. Manchester United, who are apparently paying even more than the €40 million clause to gain better payment structure choices with Bologna, did not find this to be a problem.
Without factoring in the €15 million commission, the deal is reportedly valued at €42.5 million, split over three years. Manchester United will therefore have to pay roughly €57.5 million, or $55.5 million, for Zirkzee. In addition, the athlete will agree to a five-year deal with a six-year option.
