Darwin Nunez comforts his son following the Liverpool star’s chair-throwing with Colombian

Darwin Nunez, a forward for Uruguay and a star for Liverpool, is shown comforting his small son in newly released video following the horrifying Copa America brawl in Charlotte on Wednesday.

Araujo, who missed the game through injury, could be seen clashing with fans in the stands

Nunez gained international notoriety when, following Uruguay’s 1-0 semifinal loss, he faced the heckling crowd and struck out at Colombian fans. In additional video, the 25-year-old was seen trying to throw a chair into the throng but was stopped by security.

Nunez engaged the figҺt to defend the families of the Uruguayan players, according to teammate Jose Gimenez, who later informed reporters that the players’ families had been “avalanched” by inebriated Colombian fans.

That could account for Nunez’s appearance on the pitch with his wife Lorena, holding and consoling his two-year-old son and namesake while he was shirtless. Nunez, who was visibly startled by the altercation, caressed his son’s back as his upset spouse screamed and motioned at the throng.

Nunez is shown in other recently released video scuttling through the throng while brandishing a black chair that he was attempting to throw at the spectators. Nunez was stopped by a security guard, but the altercation was far from over.

As police strangely withheld their presence from the scene, some of Nunez’s teammates joined the figҺt.

“This is embarrassing; not a single police officer was able to keep them under control.” Gimenez remarked, “We had to go and defend our own just because they can’t control their drinking.”

Maximiliano Araujo and Sebastian Caceres, two Uruguayan athletes, were also sighted close to the spectators.

According to reporter Favian Renkel, the families of the Uruguayan players were then taken out of the stadium through an alternate exit to guarantee their safety.

When questioned about the incidents following the game, Uruguay manager Marcelo Bielsa stated he “didn’t see everything.”

In the Copa America third-place match on Saturday, Uruguay will play Canada, and in the final on Sunday, Colombia will play rival Argentina.

The altercation came after a fiercely contested game in which Colombia narrowly avoided defeat by Argentina to advance to the Copa America final.

In a ferocious environment at Bank of America Stadium, James Rodriguez was booked after angrily arguing with the referee, and Colombia had one player sent off. Both teams also made some very strong tackles on each other.

After getting two yellow cards in the first half—the second coming from elbowing Manuel Ugarte—Munoz was told to march off.

Luis Diaz of Liverpool was also repeatedly taken down, and Uruguay infuriated their opponents by continuing to play with Richard Rios crumpled in the far corner.

He tried to go on, but was eventually carried off on a stretcher.

Jefferson Lerma’s header ultimately proved to be the winning goal for Colombia, who now go to face Lionel Messi and Argentina in Sunday’s Miami final.
