Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot is currently savoring a holiday break alongside his Portugal compatriot Cristiano Ronaldo. Both players, along with their United teammates, are making the most of their time off with friends and family before returning to Carrington for pre-season training next month. According to reports from the Manchester Evening News, United plans to stagger the return of their players, with those not involved in recent international duties starting pre-season in early July, while those returning from international fixtures are expected back by July 10. The club’s first pre-season friendly is slated for July 12 against Leeds United in Oslo, Norway.
Dalot had notable appearances for Portugal in their recent European Championship qualifiers, starting in their 1-0 victory over Iceland after being on the bench against Bosnia and Herzegovina earlier. Meanwhile, Ronaldo garnered attention with a late winning goal against Iceland, marking his historic 200th appearance for Portugal, a first for male players. Ronaldo shared snapshots on Instagram from their holiday, including one where Dalot is seen enjoying a boat outing with friends.
Ronaldo re-joined United in August 2021 but left a year later following a controversial interview where he voiced criticisms about the club, manager Erik ten Hag, and the Glazer family. Dalot, on the other hand, faces a crucial pre-season as he aims to reclaim his spot from Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who held the right-back position for most of the latter part of the 2022/23 season. Dalot will be eager to showcase his capabilities ahead of United’s season opener against Wolves on August 14.
