Carlo Ancelotti Unfazed by Integrating Kylian Mbappé into Real Madrid’s Attack
Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has expressed confidence about fitting Kylian Mbappé into his attacking lineup, despite the presence of several star forwards in the team.
The prospect of Mbappé’s role at Real Madrid became a hot topic following his introduction at the Bernabeu. Ancelotti, who already boasts a successful attacking lineup from last season, remains untroubled by the challenge of accommodating the French striker.
“To be honest, I haven’t thought too much about it yet. However, fitting Mbappé into the lineup isn’t a problem. Remember, he’s mentioned he’s willing to adapt to the team. The important thing is that every player must showcase their talent and contribute to the collective effort,” Ancelotti stated during the “The Obi One” podcast.
A few days after his introduction, Mbappé visited Real Madrid’s training center to meet Ancelotti and his new teammates. During this visit, he had a brief discussion with Ancelotti.
“I first welcomed him to Real Madrid. Secondly, I advised him to rest because the last season was long and tiring,” Ancelotti revealed about their conversation.
Mbappé is expected to take a three-week break before rejoining Real Madrid on August 8 to prepare for the UEFA Super Cup match against Atalanta on August 14.
According to AS, Ancelotti might use a 4-3-3 formation featuring an attacking trio of Mbappé, Rodrygo, and Vinicius. However, when asked about this possibility, the Italian coach joked that he might need to fit all his attacking players onto the pitch.
Last season, Real Madrid primarily employed a 4-4-2 formation, with Jude Bellingham playing the most advanced role in the midfield diamond, supporting Rodrygo and Vinicius. This strategy proved effective as Real Madrid secured both La Liga and the Champions League titles.
Ancelotti emphasized the importance of the forwards’ flexibility in movement as a key factor in the team’s success. “Vinicius doesn’t only play as a left winger. He can also drift into the center. The same goes for Bellingham, who can play in any of the three midfield positions. Rodrygo can also play on either wing,” he explained.
The 65-year-old coach noted that he values the creative freedom of his forwards, striving to allow them as much freedom as possible.
“For instance, in the first leg against Man City in the Champions League, we positioned Rodrygo and Vinicius on the left wing, believing it would be advantageous. Therefore, we’re not overly concerned about Mbappé’s specific position. I haven’t discussed this with him yet, but what’s crucial is the flexibility in our attack,” Ancelotti added.
